First thing first if you are considering doing coaching then you must be someone who genuinely wants to help others. You must be someone who is passionate about helping others, someone who has an interest in making an impact and changing lives. And this must be the first and foremost reason you want to do coaching. Not be someone who wants to do coaching because your drive is to make money. Because that reason is not aligned with coaching generally and its fundamentals. Though you would make money, plenty of it, depending on the kind of coaching you do but your main drive must be wanting to help. The money would flow easily to you because you doing coaching for the right reasons. And with that drive, you would be a good coach and a highly effective one which would lead to great results for your clients which would mean more clients, more success, and more money for you.

How do you turn your experience, knowledge & skills into coaching

You can turn your experience, knowledge & skills into coaching because you can coach in any topic or area that you want or desire to coach on as long as there is a need for that coaching in that area or topic. And you possess all the abilities and capabilities to guide and coach people in that topic or area to the desired end results.

You can coach in any topic or area, not just common popular broad topics such as life coaching, health coaching, business coaching, or sports coaching which is what seems to be a common understanding about coaching.
If you take a life coaching topic for example is a super broad topic because there are so many areas in life you can coach someone on.  For example, you can coach someone on finding their life purpose, you can coach someone on unleashing their full potential, and you can coach someone in discovering their true identity to live the life they want. You can coach someone on overcoming addictions. You can coach someone on overcoming anxieties, low self-esteem, and depression. All of these areas are different or slightly different areas or topics to coach on within the life coaching topic. And in each topic or area, you have to possess all the abilities and capabilities to guide and coach someone to the desired end result. Not just a general life coaching training certification because having an ability and capability for each area or topic would require different experiences, knowledge, and skills as you can see.

How do you possess the abilities and capabilities to coach in a particular area or topic

What possesses you the abilities and capabilities to coach in a particular area or topic is usually one or a combination of the following things:

Transformational life experience – for example where your life has transformed because you have discovered or figured out a solution that has helped you solve or overcome or conquer a certain challenge in your life that has bothered you for a period of time, perhaps after trying different things that all didn’t work or help. And with the know how to overcome that challenge you can help others to overcome it as well, you can coach them to overcome it.

Knowledge & skills – where you have acquired knowledge on a particular topic whether through attending training, taking classes, taking courses, reading books, learning certain tools or techniques, or having been coached on that topic or area. Although this is treated differently it also includes having enrolled at a coaching school and trained then got certified or accredited to coach on a certain topic. You can then use the knowledge acquired and skills developed as a result of training to coach people in that particular topic or area.

Career experience – where you have achieved a certain milestone or thing in your career or business. And now you can guide, coach, and show others how to achieve the same.

Life-long experience – where you have done a particular thing that you now know and understand it so well because of the experience of interacting with it for so long or so much.That now you can guide and coach others on that thing.

These are the common ways of possessing abilities and capabilities of guiding and coaching people in a particular area or topic.
As I said earlier is usually one of the ways above or a multiple combination of them. Let me give you examples to illustrate what I mean by that. For example:

Most people ask, don’t I need to get a qualification or accreditation or certification from an institution or school to coach before becoming a coach?
The answer to that is yes that’s a common belief or thinking with the masses and the narrative within the coaching industry.
But the truth is, it depends on you and the kind of coaching you want to do or the area or topic you want to coach on. In some areas or topics to coach on it may be helpful to further equip yourself by acquiring further knowledge by going to a certain coaching school or institution which would help you possess further abilities and capabilities to guide and coach people on that particular topic or area. Thus taking a particular training from a coaching school and the completion of it would lead you to obtaining a qualification or certification or accredition. But what is more important is to be able to guide and coach people to the desired end results than having a nicely framed piece of paper on your wall which would not mean anything if you can’t coach and guide people to the desired end results with that piece of paper in your position.

Where you required to have a qualification or accreditation or certification is when or if you are working with or working for organizations or corporations. As they are more likely to ask you for qualifications.

The coaching that’s applied in organizations or corporations is usually the coaching that its training is provided by coaching schools or institutions. It’s less effective, unpersonable, and very limited as it is very structured and by the book. In some cases, it’s just a numbers game.

If you are not looking to work with or for corporations or organizations like most people but just want to help everyday people. Then you have seen with the 4 ways of posses abilities and capabilities to coach on a topic or area and also what I’ve explained above, some topics may require you to acquire further knowledge to equip yourself which means going to a coaching school or institution. But even with those topics, it would still depend on you if you feel like you’ve got what it takes to coach and guide people to the desired end results.

Of course, not all topics or areas require acquiring further knowledge by attending coaching schools/institutions hence you can turn your knowledge, experience, and skills into coaching. 

Besides we will be limited on what topics or areas to coach on if we were to coach on topics or areas that are only offered by coaching schools/institutions as they don’t or can never cover all topics or areas. You can coach in any topic or area you want as long as you possess the ability to help and coach people in that topic or area to the desired end result. As you’ve seen with the examples above I shared with you above.
But to further demonstrate and clarify this point to you let me give you further examples of people coaching in different topics or areas that didn’t require them to go to coaching schools or institutions:

As you can see in the above examples, they have found their own areas or topics to coach on. And these coaching topics or areas are unique them and different to them. They are more likely based on their experience and knowledge that did not acquire further from some coaching schools/institutions. And they are doing well helping their clients and getting compensated financially.

Plus if you coach in your own unique topic or area based on your own life-changing experience or career experience or life long experience or skills or knowledge, you have a high chance of succeeding with your coaching because it would be unique. It won’t be saturated like the ones where you go train in the coaching school/institutions where you would have more other people from that same coaching school/ institution doing the same thing. Which is what going to lead to saturation. 
Take me for example based on my career experience, knowledge & skills. I coach on turning your experience, knowledge, and skills into coaching. I coach on starting and building a coaching business. With all my experience, knowledge, and skills I can also coach on these topics or areas as well if I want to:

Digital marketing for solopreneurs’ digital businesses
Sales for solopreneurs’ digital businesses
Content marketing for solopreneurs’ digital businesses
Business success mindset
Digital solopreneurs business development.

These are just a few of the topics or areas that I can coach on that come to mind, I am sure if I look deeper I can come up with more unique topics or areas to coach on. And none of these topics or areas I’ve just mentioned above require me to go to a coaching school/institution to train or get certified to coach on them. They are just topics or areas based on my career experience, knowledge & skills.

It would be the same for you but different as you would have a different life journey than me.

Once you’ve worked out or kind of have an idea of what area or topic you’ll be coaching on based on your experience, knowledge, or skills. And feel like you have the abilities and capabilities to coach on that topic or area. Feel like you can guide, help, and coach people in that topic or area to the desired end results.
